War of The Worlds

I am truly speechless as what to say after listening to this. I feel like I just watched a feature film. The sound effects, the dialog, the "acting".  I can not wrap my mind around that this was produced in the late 30's.  I really enjoyed it and now understand why some people prefer this type of entertainment. I listened to this while I was working on my flip book and I really like how I was still able to listen to the story even though I was drawling and coloring. If I didn't know any better I would of thought that it was a real emergency broadcast that was airing at the time. I feel like I was doing my homework while the rest of the world was in a state of emergency, it was a weird feeling. I kept trying to look up and see a t.v. but there was nothing there. I kept searching for an image to associate with what I was hearing but their was nothing their. I do not know why my brain has been trained to search for the images related to what I am hearing but it is really weird to be put in a situation that stretches what my brain has been trained for. I really liked the broadcast and I wish we still did things like this today! But with no ads... Just the story!

Phillip K Dick (BEYOND LIES THE WUB)

http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1328340429l/11481021.jpg
I chose to read "Beyond Lies The Wub" by Phillip K Dick. The story was about a space captain who came in contact with a Wub or better known as a pig. They take the Wub onto there space ship and have a battle on wether to eat it or let it live. The captain being a ruthless leader and no regard for life kills the Wub. When the Wub is served for dinner the captain is the only one who enjoys the meal while Franco and Jones do not enjoy it and leave the table. I really liked his science fiction writing and how in 1950 Dick wrote this short story. In 1950 I could only imagine how people pictured the future and it is really cool to see how Dick creates this story of what his picture of the future looks like. The story is very short and I think it takes a stab at political figures and how they enjoy their own ruthless choices and do not accept the impact it has on others. I can see how if he did mean to write about political figures it would make sense. I really enjoyed his writing.

Singing in the RAIN!

Such a happy song yet it is being sung while the wife gets her clothes cut off and raped. This is a very tense scene that depicts an act deemed by society as a horrific action. I tried to picture this scene without the song to try and get a feeling for what maybe the directors where thinking before they decided to put it in the film. As I played the clip back with no audio the scene took on another perspective. I felt it had more meaning as if the raping was more thought through rather than a spontaneous action. When I played it back with music, it had almost a light hearted feeling. I can not really describe it but I feel the music and dancing brings a creepy almost innocent aspect to such a harmful activity. I also really like how at first the song is not sexual bust as it progress the song talks about making love. When I began to research why the song was put in, I came across some trivia facts from the movie. When the directors were playing with this scene it took them four days to perfect it. Finally the director asked Malcolm McDowell to dance and sing while doing the scene. As the scene started rolling and he started singing, he did the only song he knew by heart. That song happened to be "Singing in the Rain". The director then immediate bought the rights to the song for $10,000 because he loved how much it fit into the film. I really like that the song was put into the movie and I think that it adds more character to the singer. I could not picture this being performed any other way.

A trip to the moon!

I have no idea where to start with this one...
From the crazy ideas of space and physics to the aww of what they were making in 1902. I can't believe in 1902 they were able to film and color something as elaborate as this. It is almost like hollywood went back in time and told them how to make a basic movie. Although this movie breaks all the rules of making movies now, back then it was a tremendous break through. Now to the crazy ideas and sets. I want to know what they were thinking when they came up with the ideas for sets and props. A bullet to the moon? Never in my wildest dreams would I think of that let alone recreate it on stage. Once on the moon the aliens and sets were outstanding. I understand that they had no idea what was up there but the imagination and work it took to build these sets and ideas blew me away! I really enjoyed taking a step back in history when reaching for the moon was fantasy and an innocent idea of everyone. It really opened my eyes to what people used to be like and how our lives have changed so much.

Stop Motion Galore!

THOSE VIDEOS ARE FREAKING CRZAZY!!!
Thats all thats needed to be said...
As I scanned the videos on both links all of the super hero figures and toy ones interested me the most. I really want to try and re-create some of those videos. Doing stop motion is hard and very time consuming but this guy blows it out of the water.

Black Ox skateboard
This had to be one of my favorite videos out of all his work. I used to skateboard and play with the little skateboards all the time. Seeing this brought back so many memories and even inspired me to go outside and skateboard.

Breakdancing Stop Motion
Dancing in stop motion? Really? I have no idea how they could pull this off but it came out truly amazing! To see the guys spinning and flying through the air was really cool. I wish I could shadow the making of these stop motions for a day to just pick his brain and see how he thinks of these ideas to film.

Jono! A masterpiece human

To here the life the Jono has lived and to see she has put her feelings and life into her pieces. I was so interested in the fact that her art is direct representations to her. The meaning and love that flowed into all her pieces from the hair colorings to the huge charcoal pieces. Jono is a very brace person and I love to see that she isn't afraid to stand out and represent herself in her work.

Stage Door

I really enjoyed browsing this site! It had some really cool clips from singing on the Titanic deck to dancing in Damn Yankees. There is so much to learn from studying plays and operas that I couldn't even begin to describe what I have already learned. Although I couldn't read the site I really like watching most of the movie clips as I scrolled down the page.

Behind the Scenes Wicked Edition

I think its really cool to see all of the work that goes into a play. Just to get a small glimpse into that world is breathe taking. Seeing all the small details that go into making sure the play is perfect, down to that last line change five minutes before curtain opens. I really enjoyed this video and the insight it provided into the background of the play.

Why are we so negative towards advertising?

Many controversies have revolved around commercials that are supposes to portray the American lifestyle. Sorry to say it people need to stop being so ignorant towards others. We live in America and we are a melting pot of the world and thats what makes us so special. We have the chance to embrace every culture around the world and experience things others would die to experience. Commercials that portray different countries, interracial couples, gay couples and other cultures is what America is! We need to be proud for what we have and not be so opposed to it.

I think people who disapprove of these commercials are scared to embrace other cultures and therefore are scared to find who they are as a person.

Oculus Is Awesome?? HELLS YEAH!

To 3d world or not to 3d world?
Oculus would open up so many doors with so much potential that it is scary to think we even live in a world like this! I would want to play video games where this mask! I think it would be so cool to be able to immerse yourself into a virtual world and run around.

Boom, bang, duck! Your swung to the side of a giant transformer running past you!

The possibilities for film is incredible, no more imax 3d. I can't wait to see where this invention goes and maybe one day be the one developing for them.

Madama Butterfly Animation (Aka the coolest stop motion I have seen!)

Stop motion animation has been a big interest in my film career since watching Jack Skeleton the Nightmare Before Christmas!

http://th02.deviantart.net/fs5/PRE/i/2005/125/b/e/Jack_Skellington_by_Shadrak.jpg

I have always been fascinated with the limitless possibilities of stop motion. In Madama Butterfly I was taken away to a world of a lonely women who spent her life waiting for her mate to return. I was in awe of the creative artist standpoints in the short. The story pulled me in and took me away to a world of clay. They story was extremely simple yet embedded with very complex ideas. I feel it is a short film that most people can relate too, such as family members going to war or family members leaving the family. Overall the I feel the short film portrayed and amazing story through music and outstanding gestures.

History of Opera

Opera... Opera... Opera...
Why has something so simple as a play transformed the history of the world forever. Plays that began as entertainment transformed into political stabs. Operas may have started as a fight to the death match in the Roman coliseum but has now transformed into a form of art forever engraved in the world.

From running away and fearing of ones life to performing dramas that bring audiences to tears Operas have brought countries in turmoil out of depression and reunited them through relieving stress in emerging audiences into stories.

Learning how Operas have influenced all of our modern entertainment intersted me alot. I want to see how certain Operas have changed video games and how they changed the movie industry forever.
