Advertising vs Propaganda

What is the difference between propaganda and advertising?

I had to start with the definitions of both because I am unsure of what they really are or what they really mean. Propaganda is the deliberate spreading of harmful information and or rumors. A direct example of this would be the material used during world war 2, and how the germans idolized Hitler and knocked the jews. Next advertising is the act of calling attention to ones product. Another example of this would be commercials that we see everyday, such as people selling items or their services.

Now that I know there is a huge difference between the two of them. I feel advertising is more to market items and to sell them.  Where propaganda is more to negatively promote someone. Although I feel their is some grey area in between the two of them. There are some places where things cross over, and they mix. I feel both take incredible amounts of skill to pull off correctly. Although they are for different causes they both have to accomplish the challenge of appealing to people. This is a very difficult task but when done right it is very successful. This is why I think there are some similarities between advertising and propaganda and why they can not be mixed.
